In Recession, Government must engage, give focus
“One of the key challenges for Government is effective communications,” according to PRCA Chairman, Ann-Marie O’Sullivan speaking at the annual Awards for Excellence in Public Relations, presented at the Conrad Hotel, Dublin, on Friday 26 June.
“It’s ironic that at a time when we need governance we seem to get politics. We all accept that times are hard, but what people can’t accept is a lack of national direction. In short, the Government needs to be engaging more with people. There is a willingness to do what we can for the sake of the country, however, we need Government to give us a focus in this regard.”
This year, moving from what has historically been a black-tie evening event to a business luncheon, the awards ceremony attracted over 250 PR professionals and their guests. The Awards were presented by Minister for Finance, Brian Lenihan T.D., and by PRCA Chairman Ann-Marie O’Sullivan, who is Executive Director of Cork-based H+A Marketing+PR (incorporating O’ Sullivan PR).
“While down slightly on last year we were absolutely delighted with both the number and standard of entries for this year’s awards,” said Gerry Davis, CEO of the Public Relations Institute of Ireland and of the Public Relations Consultants Association. “Some incredibly creative work has been carried out during the last year and great results achieved. PR does work and is worth the investment,” said Davis.
