Ever seen a QR Code, sure you have, it's on everything from butter to bread, yet people and businesses haven't maximised its use yet! Read Warrens blog on Ireland's slow response to quick response.
Irelands slow response to quick response!?
What exactly does this look like to you? To many, it’s a rather odd looking barcode which they would more than likely ignore were it to appear on the corner of their morning cereal box or in a magazine ad. Little do they (and many Irish companies) realize is that it could be the key to opening up a whole new world of opportunity! (A world the Japanese have been privy to for some 15 years now!)
It is in fact a QR or “Quick Response” code, a specific matrix barcode which can only be read by barcode readers and camera phones. The idea behind the technology is that you can scan the QR code with your Smartphone and instantly arrive at a company website, promotional offer, hidden page…who knows! If you scan the QR code above you’ll be brought to our own company website, which you are coincidently already on!
What I’m wondering is why Ireland has not yet fully embraced the idea of the QR code and all it has to offer. Although there are some companies who have started to use QR codes in their advertising and on their product packaging, Sunways, Jameson and Dairygold to name but a few, it largely remains an untapped resource. The opportunities are vast, Quick Response allows a business inform customers of it’s products and services, engage with customers through their mobile device and reward them for doing so by producing codes which direct to downloadable coupons and other means of loyalty reward!
Now that our mobile devices are of such high spec and surfing the web on mobile devices is growing at a rapid rate, QR technology seems to be a logical step for all businesses, large and small.
The divide between our online and offline lives seems to be diminishing as quickly as the latest apps appear in the App Store, so why are we so slow to respond and get scanning?! We’d love to hear your thoughts on the subject.
How to create your own QR Code;
Simply visit any QR generating website, type in the URL of the page you wish to direct to and click Generate! Hey presto you have your very own unique QR code, it’s as simple as that…
To view QR codes you will need to go to your app store and download a QR scanner app.
